Joan is the youngest of a family of 8, brought up by just her mother. They moved to Maldon when she was young and vividly remembers war time while she was at school. She joined the WAAFs after the war, then came home to marry her childhood friend from Sunday School. They too had 8 children. Her son Bob added to her memories by recalling shopping in the new Tescos, filling the pram with goods. He also collected coal and coke in the pram. Joan says she has had a good life in Maldon and looks forward to a big party when she is 100.
